Golf is played all over the world, and some stats suggest that there are over 30,000 golf facilities on the planet. This sport gathers different types of people, regardless of their age, gender, income, education, or other factors.
Nevertheless, we decided to dig a little deeper into the numbers and see whether we can calculate the average golf player profile. Read on!
Male vs Female
There are only a few sports that women play more than men, and golf is in no way an exception to that rule. Around three-quarters of all golf players are male, regardless of whether you count only professionals or amateurs.
The US and the Rest of the World
There are around 30 million golf players in the US, which accounts for almost 10% of the entire country’s population. The US alone has 45% of all golf courses on the planet — over 15,000 of them.
Canada and Japan have between 2000 and 3000 courses, while the United Kingdom and Australia have just over 1000. Next in line are China, India, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, and several countries from western Europe.
While over 200 countries have at least one golf facility, golf cannot be played everywhere. Building a golf course is not an easy task, and many countries are undeveloped or lack natural resources and infrastructure to build more than a few of them.
Average Age and Marital Status
Golf’s not physically strenuous like other sports, so people of all ages like playing it. This is the reason why golfers are on average older than other athletes. The average age for a golfer in the US is 54, and similar numbers can be found in other countries as well.
Over two-thirds of all golfers are married, regardless of whether they are male or female.
Education, Jobs, and Income
There are many golf players that are college educated, while around 67% of them attended college or a faculty at some point in their lives.
Around half of the people playing golf are blue-collar workers, although the income of a golf player can vary. In the US, an average household income of a golfer is nearly $100,000.
Many of them have life insurance, own at least one house, a car, and use a credit card on a regular basis.
Leisure
Around 90% of golf players claim that they regularly use the Internet, while one-third of them like to have a drink or two during a round of golf. More so, they believe that they play better when consuming a little bit of alcohol.
Conclusion
Based on all this information, you can say that an average golfer is a married, educated male citizen from the US in his 50s who has a steady income and likes to spend time on the web.
